Aston Martin Rapide Receives a Heavy Facelift from an Audi Q5 in China

The world has one less Aston Martin Rapide to worry about today after a gunmetal grey example of the British luxury sports saloon had an unfortunate meeting with an Audi Q5 crossover on the busy streets of Beijing in China.

The two cars bumped heads with might, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured from the accident.

According to reports from the local media, police are still investigating the cause of the accident, so we don't know which of the two drivers is at fault here.

Jaguar-Land Rover Forms New Joint Venture with China's Chery Automobile

Tata Motor's Jaguar-Land Rover premium division has signed a joint venture deal with Chery Automobile to sell cars in its home market of China. The agreement, however, is not final, as it has to be approved by China's regulators.

Just last December, China's National Reform and Development Commission (NRDC) and the Ministry of Commerce said that they would stop encouraging foreign investment in the car manufacturing industry to allow for “healthy development” of a market.

Real Steel: U.S. Slaps Duties on Steel Wheels Imported from China

It seems that the U.S. administration has finally decided to respond to similar measures taken by China, such as imposing extra duties on U.S. made cars.

Another episode of the trade war between the United States and China aired yesterday after the U.S. Commerce Department announced that it has set new duties on steel wheels imported from China.

The Department said that Chinese manufacturers, who last year exported over US$84.2 million worth of steel wheels in the U.S., are selling them 44.96 to 193.45 percent (!) "below fair value".

Chinese Automaker Completing Work on...Renault Zoe EV Clone

Do these renderings remind you of something? Of course they do since it's only been 12 days since Renault lifted the veils off the final production version of its Zoe pure-electric supermini at the 82nd Geneva International Auto Salon…

According to the local media, the Renault Zoe's Asian twin is named the J0 and it's being prepared by a company called Shenzhen Greenwheel Electric Vehicle Co. LTD, which is a small carmaker that focuses on electric cars.

Not much else is known about the JO EV, though there's a strong possibility that that Shenzhen Greenwheel will display the car at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show in April.

Renault Slaps its Badge on the Samsung SM7 and Calls it the New Talisman Sedan

The good thing with owning several brands across the world is that you can market the same products under different names, in different countries. Renault has done this several times with a number of Samsung and Dacia models and will continue the practice with its new Talisman sedan.

The French automaker released a single teaser image of the Talisman, which borrows its name from Renault's 2001 luxury concept car and will make its world premiere at the Beijing Motor Show in China on April 23.

Forza Toothbrush: Porsche Owner Masks License Plates with Toothpaste to Trick Cameras

Altering your car’s license plates is, as far as we know, illegal in all countries. The thing is, unless you live in Germany where you can drive as fast you want in the unrestricted autobahn, speed limits can be a bore, especially if you happen to own a Porsche.

With speed cameras popping up everywhere these days, some not-so-law-abiding citizens try to evade them by any means possible. A car’s I.D. is its license plates. Therefore, removing or alter them in any way is a possible solution to getting away with speeding.

Journalists Crash Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG into SLS AMG During Test Drive

As a rule of thumb, the more powerful the car you are testing and which you do not own, the more careful you should be on the road.

Apparently, that wasn't the case with two Chinese journalists that were trying out Mercedes-Benz's sportiest models during the ‘SLS AMG Track Xperience’ event at the Zhuhai International Circuit.

According to a report from The Tycho, the accident occurred when the driver of a red SLS AMG coupe slammed on the brakes and the journalist behind him in a gunmetal gray C63 AMG sedan was either not paying attention or was too close to do anything about it and crashed into him.

None of the drivers were hurt but as you can see from these photos, both cars suffered extensive damages.

China and U.S.A. are Key to Bentley’s Plan to Double its Sales

Despite the global crisis, last year Bentley increased its sales by 30 percent compared to 2010, yet the VW Group-owned luxury carmaker has even grander plans for the next five years.

While he is satisfied with the results so far, Bentley’s CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer wants his company to more than double its annual sales from today’s 7,000 units to 15,000 in 2017. Duerheimer told Automotive News Europe that he counts on China and the recovering U.S. market to contribute a lot in that increase.

“We are currently experiencing a boom in China, where our sales almost doubled to 1,839 vehicles in 2011”, said Duerheimer. “That made China Bentley’s second-largest single market. It will likely advance into the number one spot this year”, he added.

Chinese Government Scraps All Foreign Brands from its New Car Buying List

It's customary for state officials of a car-producing nation to prefer local manufacturers for their transportation needs.

For example, German dignitaries will mostly be seen on TV stepping out of a Mercedes, BMW or Audi; their British counterparts choose brands like Jaguar, the French, large Peugeots or Renaults and so on.

It's also natural to promote their domestic products, though we haven't heard of any law specifically prohibiting the purchase of certain brands for all government agencies. Until now, that is.

Lamborghini Admits that SUV Concept will Debut at Beijing Auto Show in April

Lamborghini has reaffirmed its plans to unveil an SUV concept at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show in April. The Italian company said that the reason why it opted for an SUV model is the car buyers’ preferences in China.

“Chinese customers love their big cars”, Christian Mastro, Lamborghini’s general manager for the Asia-Pacific region, told Bloomberg News. “All the brands are making cars more specific for the Chinese market.”

It’s a fact that has been noticed by other luxury carmakers, such as Bentley. VW Group’s other exclusive brand, will also unveil its first-ever SUV concept next month at the Geneva Motor Show. It plans to roll out the production version in 2015, one year ahead of Lamborghini’s successor to the 1980s LM 002.
